You’ve decided you want to sell your house but you’re not sure what to do in order to attract the most buyers. Here are a few tips to make your house offer worthy to any buyer.
1. Hide your stuff: Clutter is one of the biggest turnoffs for buyers. It makes rooms look smaller and distracts from the good qualities about your house. Start going room by room and boxing up things you won’t need between now and when you move. Store the boxes in a storage unit. This gives you a head start on packing and makes your house look a lot bigger. Keep counters free of what nots and make sure closets are organized, as closet space is important for buyers. Practice the principle of “everything has a place” and make sure everything goes back to its place each day.
2. Stage your house: Remember less is more when it comes to decorating. Remove extra furniture and put it in storage, add curtains or mirrors to make the room feel bigger, and use neutral colors. For decorating ideas, consult an interior designer or a home stager.
3. Boost your curb appeal: The first thing a buyer will see is the outside of your house. Could it use some freshening up? Try pressure washing, adding some colorful flowers and new mulch, trimming large trees, and cutting the grass. If you’ve got a pool, make sure it is sparkling. If the house didn’t come clean with a pressure wash, consider painting the exterior or at least the front door. Make sure there are no burnt out or broken lights, cobwebs, or wasp nests. After all, the buyers will be standing at your front door while their agent opens the lockbox!
